I grew up on Dick Clark. He was an icon, and it truly did seem as if he'd never die -- the perpetual teenager! Only after he had that stroke did I believe he was actually "old".
My home was in Philly - - and before American Bandstand became a national show, it was a local Philadelphia show. In my "tween" and early teen years, I used to come home from school and watch it and learned to dance from it. I loved to see those local teens (never from my school) dancing. The guys wore jackets and ties, and some of the girls had on their Catholic high school uniforms!
