Ultrasounds Detect Cancers That Mammograms Missed

Ultrasounds Detect Cancers That Mammograms Missed, Study Finds: Experts Praise Connecticut's Landmark 2009 Law That Requires Urging Women With Dense Breast Tissue To Get Additional Testing - Courant.com

‎40% of women have breast tissue that is *too* dense to be read properly by a mammogram. CT is one of the few states that requires medical professionals to tell you this and to recommend alternate methods of screening, such as ultrasound.

I found that out in my twenties. Mammography place had a poor opinion of the GP that had recommended the mammogram. They then referred me for an ultrasound.

Sounds like we had a similar experience. I went to a doctor because of a lump in my left breast. GP sent me to get a mammogram. Nothing - wasn't readable, too dense. GP sent me to a surgeon to do an ultrasound, who told me that the mammogram was useless, especially at my young age, because of the dense tissue.
